What’s happening …

Thank you to all those who attended the UFT meeting with Alice on Tuesday and wore PINK on Wednesday and /or Friday! Please send me photos, so I can upload them to the blog. Thank you Ms. Carpano and Ms. Swaby for sending me your photos.

I had my monthly chapter leader meeting yesterday with Alice.

For your information…

Paras do not need to attend the monthly faculty conferences because of the recent arbitration decision.

Half of the retro pay will be in our October 30th paycheck. The other half at the end of July 2021.

If you are owed per session retro, half will be in a check on November 2nd and the other half in August 2021.

Random COVID testing has started in District 11. We are suppose to receive results within 48 hours. Staff that was tested last week, just received their results via email. If you test positive, you will receive a phone call.

There will be a special education Town Hall meeting next week. Be on the look out for the email from the UFT to register. If you do not receive UFT emails, please go to uft.org and sign up.

Election Day is Tuesday, 11/3. We are all teaching and working, fully remote, at home on that day.

On Thursday, 11/5 Parent Teacher Conferences are taking place remotely at home. If you are in the building on Thursday, you will be able to leave the building at 11:30am and travel to get home.

If you are observed, ask for feedback. An agreement has not yet been reached regarding teacher evaluations, between the UFT and DOE.

I know that they MAP and MOSL assessments have been frustrating, time consuming, and seem pointless. Many parents who have children at home learning remotely, have been taking the assessments for their child. Many teachers feel uncomfortable with calling parents regarding retesting if there was a major discrepancy in the MAP reading score and the level that student is on in actuality. I spoke with Ms. Gardner. She created and emailed to all teachers a letter that can be filled in and sent to families regarding this matter. Use last year’s data and what you currently know about the student. For example, if the student is reading on a Level F, but scored a 4th grade Lexile level on the MAP reading assessment, there is a discrepancy. I would still send a list of possible students to retest to Ms. Gardener and Ms. Glynn, before sending them out to families.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I am in the building Mondays on Week B, Thursdays, and Fridays. You can also email me at jarnich.baychesteracademy@gmail.com.

Have a wonderful weekend! We will get through this, but we need to stick together.

Fraternally Yours,

Janina
